Our inaugural Brooklyn space
Our first Brooklyn signature store, on Bergen Street in Boerum Hill, is located just a few doors down from local arts hub The Invisible Dog Art Center, previously host to an Aesop installation of eighteen months’ tenure.
Created by our in-house Design Department, the warm and intimate new space draws on layers of history from the site itself, retaining many original features in honour of past occupants (including a hardware and plumbing store in the 1950s, and later the editor of a small magazine).
Exposed brickwork walls run the length of the space, which is topped by the existing wooden beams. The inimitable patina of these aged materials is enhanced by glimpses of old wallpaper and painted outlines of former furniture—visible reminders of the past.
The flooring, fabricated from reclaimed timber sourced from upstate New York, is covered with an antique rug. The residential character of these distinctive furnishings is underscored by the vintage Apparatus Tandem pendant light and an old trough placed in the centre and used as a sink for product demonstrations.
