The Aesop Queer Library 2024

This year, in collaboration with the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU), we celebrate local libraries in the US and Canada, as sanctuaries where queer stories are—or rather should be—free to be discovered.

Three cities, multiple narratives

From June 27-30, the Aesop Queer Library will open branches in Los Angeles and New York City, including mobile editions at select stores. Meanwhile, more intimate community gatherings will take place in Toronto.

In solidarity with local libraries

For over a century, the ACLU has been instrumental in fighting censorship and advocating for freedom of expression. With local libraries increasingly threatened by book bans and other challenges, the Aesop Queer Library continues its collaboration with the ACLU to champion and cherish these spaces.

Aesop is proud to support the ACLU’s work protecting freedom of expression and fighting censorship.

The Reading List

The Library’s collection comprises queer titles recommended by Aesopians and the ACLU, with an emphasis on BIPOC authors who have faced censorship in the United States, including book bans and challenges. Visitors are invited to take home a book of their choice, while stocks last.
