Aesop Rue de Sèvres store interior.

Both gazes and thoughts are guided skywards in this luminous environment at the heart of the sixth arrondissement. Imagined by our in-house design team, it is a space that captures an ebullient spirit—of flights of fancy that illuminate everyday life, and enduring dreams that refuse to fade.

Set on a bustling corner at the beginning of Rue de Sèvres, the store centres on a sweeping staircase which invites customers up to a series of rooms for personalised consultations. As this architectural gesture softly blends into the ceiling, its curvature forms a frame of sorts for a large-scale artwork that is suspended from the ceiling. The abstract piece is by painter Roland Schaller, a self-described ‘dreamer who forgets to grow old’, whose essence imbued the design of the store as the Aesop team worked with him over a year to commission the work—an experience composed of long dinners, philosophical discussions and generously shared wisdom. Now residing in Switzerland, Schaller once studied at l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and busked with his guitar in Saint-Germain-des-Prés—two landmarks of the surrounding area—while the colourful landscape depicted in the work draws on his years spent in Provence.

Partly illuminated from the backlit artwork above, the ground floor is given structure by a series of dark stained oak forms that nod to the decorated screens sold in the area’s many antique shops. A backdrop of uniform off-white coats the walls, while a splash of bright orange underneath the staircase echoes the colour palette of Schaller’s painting. Within the consultation areas above, the mood becomes more intimate and domestic with shuttered windows, a carpeted floor and a Fragrance Armoire—a unique piece of furniture that plays host to our range of unconventional Eaux de Parfum.

Blending a buoyant artistic spirit with the opulent feel for which the arrondissement is known, Aesop Rue de Sèvres gives off a distinctive sense of the sixth.
