Aesop’s counter within the Kaohsiung E-Skyland mall is a pragmatic repurposing of the furniture and fixtures of the brand's former space in a neighbouring skyscraper. The design continues the previous iteration’s exploration of industrial materials and vertical construction, inspired by Taiwan’s metal manufacturing and ultra-tall buildings—while also inviting a sense of domesticity and enclosure.

Using standard components such as galvanised steel pipes and heavy-duty ratchet straps—most often used to restrain cargo and building materials during transportation—Aesop’s in-house design team created agglomerations where customers can encounter the brand’s full range of formulations and aromas for the skin, hair, body and home. Clustered in this way, the steel tubes take on the dramatic appearance of a pipe organ. The repeating vertical forms give way to flat and curved surfaces that bring a sense of tranquility, while the raw industrial aesthetic is counterbalanced by the inclusion of deep-brown velvet upholstery that matches the hue of the ratchet straps. Raised walls and frosted glass provide a sense of escape from the hustle and bustle of the retail centre, allowing customers to let go of the pressures of city life—if only for a while. In this environment of contrasts, the store’s trained consultants are able to offer advice about products best suited to individual needs.
