Following a temporary installation within a Berkeley corner building, our in-house design team assembled a more enduring structure from recycled materials in order to cultivate our local offering. Volumes of particleboard made from recovered Californian fibre sit low on the preexisting concrete floor, grounding the space while also accentuating the height of the ceiling. Exposed junctions celebrate the warmth of the recycled contents. Basins lined with reused steel, cut from overstock, provide a utilitarian environment in which to explore the company’s formulations.
Drywall panels, salvaged from sites around Berkeley, are stacked into an amphitheatre with surprising textural appeal—a heartening embrace as one lingers. The arched form gently mimics the curve of the façade, softened and lowered to suit the human scale. Here, the lifecycle and installation of a material often discarded after single use is reimagined.
