Created in collaboration with Charlap Hyman & Herrero, the second iteration of Aesop Newbury, Boston, explores the tension between the natural and the industrial, the old and the new, and materials that absorb and reflect light. Inspired by the idiosyncrasies of the surrounding architecture, the store’s language is rhythmic, monochromatic, layered, and highly textured.

As visitors cross the threshold from bustling Newbury Street into the store, they are met with an overarching sense of stillness. As if entering a cave, they descend into a soft and intimate space where weighty tectonic volumes appear to have settled into place of their own accord. Part excavation, part construction, the chambers unfold with a dreamlike quality—a ruby red straw carpet spills across the floor and invites the curious to venture further.
Mottled plaster walls muffle the outside hubbub and absorb light, while a shared central basin in stainless steel gleams with reflective durability. Seemingly carved from the walls, a seat of crimson velvet punctuates the deepest recess—allowing a moment of repose and offering a vista back onto the street. Nearby, a Fragrance Armoire piques the olfactory sense and welcomes customers to infuse a garment with the aroma of their choice.
