Amid the hubbub of the 24-hour bookstore Eslite Xinyi in Taipei City, our store offers a sanctuary for slowing down and tending to oneself. Following cues from Taiwanese bath houses and domestic bathrooms, where monochromatic square tiles create a sense of order and calm, our in-house design team submerged the space in light sepia. Tiles were sourced from nearby Taoyuan and the colour chosen for its local resonance.

Upon arrival, customers are greeted by a voluminous bronze basin, where they can rid their hands of fatigue and grime with our aromatic formulations. Around the corner, a generous room of soft curves unfolds. Here, the visitor can enjoy a more secluded ceremony at the individual basin or awaken their olfactory sense at the Fragrance Library, where an item of clothing can be suffused with a chosen aroma. Sheltered by a mass of spiny Asparagus aethiopicus growing by the window, a rounded bench invites a moment of rest—perhaps, even, with a recently purchased book.
