Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation have inhabited and tended to Boorloo—Perth—for at least 45,000 years. We pay deepest respects to Noongar Elders past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty over these lands has never been ceded. In this spirit of reverence, when it came time for the original Aesop Perth City to relocate, our in-house design team sought inspiration for the new interior from Boorloo’s geology and landscape: milky water pools in defunct quarries; the West Australian sunset warming rust-red boulders; dusk light reflecting on the surface of salt lakes.

As customers cross the threshold into the store, they are transported away from the hubbub of Hay Street into an atmosphere of composure. A locally sourced limestone monolith stands steady at the entrance, heralding the transition of pace and materiality. Salvaged Toodyay Stone fragments were used as the aggregate in a highly textured custom-made render, which coats the curving interior walls and counters. Travelling through the space, visitors experience a sense of compression and expansion: as the room narrows, the ceiling height increases dramatically, creating an intimate and yet soaring cove for individualised product explorations. Punctuating this mineral envelope, niches with bright, reflective finishes echo the sunset hues, carmine rocks, and pigmented salt lakes of the Boorloo region.
