Aesop NEWoMan Yokohama

Aesop NEWoMan Yokohama is saturated in Awa Ai—indigo cultivated, fermented, and transformed into a bold blue dye by BUAISOU in Kamiita town, Tokushima Prefecture. In collaboration with Torafu Architects, BUAISOU dyed lengths of maple timber that would form a pair of undulating walls within the store. The gentle curves suggest a ship’s hull over the rough mortar floor; natural gradations in the pigment are emphasised by the play of natural light and reflections from stainless steel fixtures.
