Isabelle Eberhardt
Born and raised in Switzerland by her father, Isabelle Eberhardt went on to lead a life defined by adventure. In 1897 she moved to Algeria, assuming the guise of a man and converting to Islam.
She died tragically at the age of 27 in a flash flood.
Eberhardt’s expansive diaries stand as a fascinating document of the 19th century, containing personal accounts of all whom she encountered and all that she witnessed during her short but fascinating life.
