The third iteration of Aesop Canberra was created by our in-house Design Department, taking cues from the ingenuity of the city’s built environment and the splendour of its surrounding landscape.
When planned by Walter Burley Griffin, Canberra represented an intersection between the natural environment and the civic requirements of a modern urban centre. Today it carries the sobriquet ‘the bush capital’. The interior of Aesop Canberra evokes the bold geometric forms of Burley Griffin’s designs in a rich material palette of marble, native timber and brass.
A monolithic circular demonstration sink, hewn from Western Australian marble, realises a striking form. This shape is reprised in the point-of-sale counter, enveloped in Australian Jarrah. With its deep wine and pomegranate tones and rounded profiles, the space gestures subtly to the distinctive interior of the Senate chamber in Parliament House.
‘And the blushing air is quivering with the joy of rosy light. / Glorious beauty!—heavenly radiance! beaming o’er the barren earth.’
