A street view of Aesop Free Market brick store exterior

Our first Denver store is situated in the historic Lower Downtown Dairy Block, which was built in 1916 to house the Windsor Dairy. Mottled red bricks make up the building’s streamlined form and are laid into minimal, geometric ornamentation on the façade. Rich sienna hues continue inside, corresponding not only to the store’s site but also to the rocky formations of Colorado’s national parks.

Large bay windows make for a highly transparent elevation onto 18th Street—our in-house Design Department installed a waxed curtain, colour-matched to the bricks, to create a sense of intrigue from the street and to provide a solid backdrop for product inside.

Exposed timber ceiling studs and structural columns remind visitors of the building’s heritage. Custom-made timber shelves emulate the post and beam language, resolutely simple and effective. At the centre, an original nineteenth-century basin—carved from a solid block of white Carrera marble—provides a forum for experiencing our formulations.
