The clean-cut aesthetic of this compact space, which is located between the Outer Gardens of the Imperial Palace and bustling Tokyo Station, honours the values upon which Tokyo thrives: quality, orderliness and intelligent design. It is entirely congruent with Shin-Marunōchi’s underlying concept of ‘having a delightful time’ while shopping or dining in the city’s international business precinct.
Created in partnership with award-winning Torafu Architects, the store’s design relies primarily on deep umber oriented strand board. This simple, versatile material is used for display shelving, walls and flooring, and for outsized units that house the demonstration sink and point-of-sale. The sum of these unified parts is an orderliness that is both calming and inviting.
‘Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.’
