You are invited to visit ION Art gallery to experience ‘Epistēmē’—an evocative, sensory installation featuring three new short films created in collaboration with Dutch artist Bart Hess.

The films dramatise skin’s response to three replenishing Aesop Skin Care favourites: Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Hydrating Cream, Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating Masque, and Lucent Facial Concentrate.

Titled using the ancient Greek word for knowledge and understanding, the installation is born of the belief that we absorb knowledge through the senses, with skin acting as an interface between our bodies and the world around us.

Inspired by this understanding, Aesop reimagined the gallery space as a theatre of the senses, portraying the moment Aesop formulations touch skin’s surface through aroma, with sound design by Ricky van Broekhoven, tactile materiality, sculptural intervention, and Hess’s film work.

A sensory installation born of the belief that we absorb knowledge through skin and senses.

After taking in the installation, we welcome you to Aesop ION Orchard at Basement 3, Unit No. 66/66A, to experience the texture, scent, and skin feel of our formulations firsthand. Informed consultants will be pleased to host you, introduce our range, and offer personalised skin care recommendations.

Bart Hess and Aesop:
A shared fascination for skin and senses

Bart Hess is a mutator of materials, a conceptual artist concerned with exposing the human body as a platform for new technologies. Oscillating between the macabre and the piquant, his work enlivens novel sensorial experiences.

For over a decade, Hess has researched and composed materials that surprise, sensualise, and reveal the skin’s surface in ways previously unexplored. These futuristic ‘textiles’ communicate through film, installations, performances, and photography, unveiling even in stillness the movements and textures of their unique biology.

‘All our knowledge begins with the senses.’
