‘Epistēmē’ is an evocative installation created in collaboration with Dutch Artist Bart Hess, appearing in the windows of Myer Bourke Street, Myer Sydney and Myer Brisbane.
Titled with the Ancient Greek word for knowledge and understanding, the installation was born of the belief that we absorb knowledge through the senses, with the skin acting as an interface between the body and the world around us.
Inspired by this understanding, Hess reimagined the windows as a theatre of the senses, dramatising the moment Aesop formulations touch the surface of the skin, and abstracting the transformations which occur as they nourish the physical and the sensual being.
Spanning more than sixty metres, the installation melds scenography, Hess's film work, and sound design by Ricky van Broekhoven to evoke the sensory experience of our complete offering, including skin, body, hair and personal care, alongside fragrance, and ranges for travel and the home.
You are welcome to discover the installation from 9 – 29 July, and to visit our counter inside the store. Here, trained consultants will be pleased to demonstrate our formulations and to offer personalised skin care recommendations over a warming cup of tea.

Bart Hess is a mutator of materials, a conceptual artist concerned with exposing the human body as a platform for new technologies. Oscillating between the macabre and the piquant, his work enlivens novel sensorial experiences.
For over a decade, Hess has been researching and composing materials that surprise, sensualise and reveal the skin's surface in ways previously unexplored.
’All our knowledge begins with the senses.’
