Crossing the Line Festival 2017

Given a long-term engagement with the performing arts, Aesop is pleased to partner once again with the French Institute Alliance Française, and to be among the audience for Crossing the Line Festival—an amalgamation of art, community, introspection, and dialogue unlike any other.

To mark the festival’s eleventh edition, it is a pleasure to offer valued New York clients the opportunity to obtain double passes to a performance of Adelheid Roosen and Nazmiye Oral’s No Longer Without You.

Premiering to American audiences, the piece is an impassioned, theatrical exchange between a real-life mother and daughter. Within the intimate embrace of a staged living room, conversation centers on values of faith and sexuality—hitherto unspeakable topics between a traditional Muslim immigrant mother and a westernized daughter, which reframe the boundaries of this family setting.

Characteristic of the festival, this year’s program features innovative works that straddle the boundaries of artistic disciplines, including a focus on Congolese artist Faustin Linyekula, a choreographer who explores his country’s history through pieces that speak to memory, forgetting and dreams. Of his three works, two are new commissions, including a residency with twenty hip-hop dancers and a site-specific performance at the Met inspired by their collection of art from the Kingdom of Kongo.
