Our new store in Seoul’s vibrant district of Seongsu-dong takes inspiration from South Korea’s traditional vernacular, prioritising sustainable construction practices and forming a comfortable, pared-back environment. Aesop Seongsu is rooted in history, inherited savoir-faire and time-honoured architectural systems. Timber was locally sourced and salvaged from structures no longer standing, and its use is a nod to the wooden beams of the historic Hanok houses found throughout the country. These are further evoked through earthen walls that are naturally insulating, and pay homage to the same ancient building techniques.
A Fragrance Armoire houses our growing collection of distinctive aromas, to be replaced in the future by an innovative packaging refill station—an invitation for customers to participate directly in a novel recycling initiative. The space is further distinguished by environmentally mindful features: robust glazing, bicycle parking outside the entrance, and a rainwater re-use system.
