Administered by the Singapore Book Council, the Singapore Literature Prize is the country’s leading literary honour, and recognises work published in any of its four official languages—Chinese, English, Malay and Tamil. The biennial prize was established in 1991 with the aim of honouring and promoting exceptional local literature, including fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry.
It is with great pleasure that Aesop supports the Singapore Literature Prize for the first time in 2018. We extend a hearty congratulations to the forty-six shortlisted authors, and look forward to reading more about them in the coming weeks.
This year, the award coincides with the Singapore Book Council’s fiftieth anniversary; to mark the event, the prize ceremony will be open to the public for the first time in a celebration for authors and readers alike. ‘The duty of literature is to note what counts, and to light up what is suited to the light.’
