Both gazes and thoughts are guided skywards in this luminous environment at the heart of the sixth arrondissement. Imagined by our in-house design team, it is a space that captures an ebullient spirit—of flights of fancy that illuminate everyday life, and enduring dreams that refuse to fade.
Set on a bustling corner at the beginning of Rue de Sèvres, the store centres on a sweeping staircase which invites customers up to a series of rooms for personalised consultations. As this architectural gesture softly blends into the ceiling, its curvature forms a frame of sorts for a large-scale artwork that is suspended from the ceiling. The abstract piece is by painter Roland Schaller, a self-described ‘dreamer who forgets to grow old’, whose essence imbued the design of the store as the Aesop team worked with him over a year to commission the work—an experience composed of long dinners, philosophical discussions and generously shared wisdom. Now residing in Switzerland, Schaller once studied at l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and busked with his guitar in Saint-Germain-des-Prés—two landmarks of the surrounding area—while the colourful landscape depicted in the work draws on his years spent in Provence.
